Is there something wrong with only feeling the "burn" in one leg during exercise?

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I was doing some leg exercises on my back a while ago, and could only feel it in one leg? Is that bad? Will only one leg get stronger?
I’m in middle school. So no gym memberships or anything. I just want to know why my leg doesn’t feel anything when do the bicycle, ect.

It could be that one leg gained a slight amount of more muscle than the other leg. Try to stretch more before doing your work out and try to switch up machines. http://glycocarn.com/ may also help you with muscle recovery and evening out the "burn" in both legs.

i am 69 years old, and want to continue some exercise like leg exercises, walking and some things to lose weig?

walking is getting tough on my legs, but I do like this exercise-I also do 40-50 push ups daily.I weight 180 lbs 5′7", and I do keep active. what else to do?

Ride a bike, use an exercise bike, get a stairstepper or elliptical machine, try water aerobics, jump rope for a few minutes several times a day, just do whatever you can to get the activity in.

You could also get some tapes or DVD’s with exercise programs for seniors. Leslie Sansone, Richard Simmons, etc.

fast exercise techniques that will get rid of lower leg fat?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I have these rain boots that I know fit my feet perfectly, but the top part cant fit because of my extremely fat shins (lower leg) are there any good exercise techniques that will get rid of my lower leg fat within 3-4 weeks, besides squatting?

work out your calves.

At the gym, is a leg press a good enough exercise for the hamstring muscle group?

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

I know that it’s already a great exercise for the Quadriceps.

I concur with Gary.

I was looking for a muli-joint exercise, working opposing muscles to squats. I came up with hanging from a Roman chair, holding a dumbbell b/n my feet and lifting by flexing hips and knees. Or lying on the floor with a cable in the lowest position, pull on it with your feet in the same way.

The back extension bench, where your thighs brace against the pad and your heels brace against a lower bar, and you lift your back uses your glutes and I think works the hamstrings isometrically (looks like a Romanian deadlift at an angle).

Can I do exercise with stitches in my leg?

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

On Thursday I accidentally cut myself on my right leg, infront of the shin bone, and had to get 6 stitches. They are healing pretty well, and I was wondering If tomorrow I could exercise. By this I mean sprints, pylometrics, and the following day a lowr body workout with squats, lunges, etc. Is this a good idea? My dad says it should be fine, and he’s a nurse, but he didnt get to see the wound. Thanks

No, better to wait for complete healing, because your exercises involve a lot of flexing of the legs and the wound may open.

which is the best leg exercise for reducing thigh fat and shaping your buttocks?

and will squats stun my height

No, squats won’t stunt your growth. Beefing up your quads won’t make your legs look thinner though.

Try doing squat jumps, or box jumps, 1 legged box jumps also. (easy, big wooden box, jump up on top, then back down), or step jumps (put one foot up on a box or high step, jump as high as you can, then do the other leg). Kick boxing is also a good exercise to tone the legs.

To reduce fat and flab, you’re going to have to lose weight, not just build and tone muscle. A strict diet plan and cardio schedule is what you’re after.

Is biking better exercise for my thighs, or my calves and lower-leg muscles?

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

I’d like to concentrate a bit more on making my calves bigger and more muscular, so would biking be a good exercise for that?
Or should I do leg presses?

What would be some good exercises for that? )

Biking works both. don’t do leg presses because that helps your thighs. If you want to concentrate on only one muscle group, like body builders do, try calf raises, because these isolate the calves.

When I jog or exercise my legs I develop a soft squishy lump in two spots in my right lower leg. What is this?

Friday, April 16th, 2010

The lumps are very temporary, but occur in the same two spots. They seem to disappear after a few seconds. There is no bruising or discoloration. Once they disappear there is no evidence that they were there.

My guess is that they are lipomas – benign fatty tumors.

good leg exercise for sore legs?

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I’m a personal trainer, but I’m new at it, so I could use some suggestions. I have a client who (against my wishes) did a boat load of deep knee bends on a day when he didnt work out with me, and is consequently EXTREMELY sore. I would like to work out his legs today, but I don’t want to over do it. Any suggestions on something we could do?

* Wait. Soreness will go away in 3 to 7 days with no special treatment.
* Avoid any vigorous activity that increases pain.
* Do some easy low-impact aerobic exercise – this will increase blood flow to the affected muscles, which may help diminish soreness.
* Use the R.I.C.E. treatment plan
* Use gentle stretching on the affected area
* Gently massage the affected muscles.
* Try using a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications to reduce the soreness temporarily, though they won’t actually speed healing.
* There is some evidence that performing Yoga may reduce DOMS.
* Allow the soreness to subside thoroughly before performing any vigorous exercise.
* Don’t forget to stretch and warm up before your targeted activity.
* If your pain persists longer than about 7 days or increases despite these measures, consult your physician.
