Umm, there are definitely more effective ways to exercise your legs, but yes I can see why it could strengthen your legs, but don’t think you are going to get definition from it, there is no motion involved.

I don’t think it’s bad for your legs but I do think it is bad for your back.

It builds endurance, make sure you alternate legs, though.

No, my gym teacher once said something about this. If you put too much wear and tear on one side of the leg then it can cause long term damage. If you really want to work out your legs, try going up the stairs up and down wearing weights or holding weights in your hands. Just a simple exercise.

It’s good for balance. Never heard anyone wanting to try it for that long a period though, but that exercise is recommended by the American Heart Association.

Standing on 1 leg isn’t dangerous, It would be considered a "static exercise". Just make sure that you don’t LOCK you knee. Have you ever watched one of those "funny video" shows that show the kid in the choir fall off of the riser? It was more than likely because he fainted from having his knees locked and thus compresing the femural artery.
Hope this helps

I dont really see that as exercise. But it is definintely good for your balance. It might strengthen the ligaments in your hip area and develop the muslces in the calf hamstring waist slightly.Try doing squats standing in place. Then when your strong enough, one legged squats.Unless you have a history of bad knees and ligaments you will benefit from doing squats with the correct form.Look them up on http://www.youtube.com . Hope this helps.
